The upcoming Premier League season, set to kick off in just a month, is poised to be another intense battle as Manchester City aims for a remarkable fifth consecutive title, according to predictions from a reliable supercomputer.
Pep Guardiola's squad faced stiff competition last season, with Liverpool briefly topping the table in April before fading and Arsenal also in contention until the final fixtures.
This summer has seen significant managerial changes across various clubs, including Liverpool and Chelsea, who hope to improve under new leadership from Arne Slot and Enzo Maresca, respectively.
While last season saw all three promoted teams relegated, Leicester, Ipswich, and Southampton are determined to avoid a similar fate this time. According to forecasts by Grosvenor Sport's supercomputer, two of these teams are predicted to narrowly escape the drop.
The supercomputer, which runs simulations of each Premier League match 1,000 times, currently gives Manchester City an overwhelming 90% chance of securing the title. However, it acknowledges that predictions may evolve as teams finalize their squads and other variables come into play.
Last season's runners-up, Arsenal, are seen as the second favorites, trailing City by two points from last term's tally. The supercomputer projects City finishing on top with 94 points, extending their lead over Arsenal by eight points. Liverpool is expected to finish third, ahead of Manchester United, despite Erik ten Hag's side winning the league more times in simulations than Liverpool.
At the opposite end of the standings, the supercomputer predicts Ipswich Town, despite their second-place finish in the Championship last season, to finish at the bottom. Ipswich, managed by Kieran McKenna amid reported interest from Chelsea, are forecasted to struggle.
Joining Ipswich in the relegation zone are last season's Premier League teams Wolves in 19th place and Nottingham Forest in 18th. Forest, under the guidance of Steve Cooper, are anticipated to finish just below Leicester, who are expected to secure safety by a slim margin.
Brighton and Southampton, with Roberto De Zerbi's departure potentially impacting their performance, are predicted to hover just above the relegation zone.
As speculation swirls about Pep Guardiola's future, with him being considered for the England national team manager role, the upcoming season could potentially be his last at Etihad Stadium. Guardiola has expressed interest in leading a national team, highlighting his ambitions beyond club football.
With an average of 89.75 points per season over the last four campaigns, Manchester City has consistently dominated the league. If the supercomputer's predictions hold true, City will maintain their exceptional form with another championship triumph, elevating their average points tally above 90 once more.
